Going on Record for Love and Against Harm

By Alaina and Lucas

“Where love rules, there is no will to power, and where power predominates, love is lacking. One is the shadow of the other.” — Carl Jung

Our work is about love—not as a feeling, but as a practice. It’s about extending oneself for someone else’s growth, even when it’s difficult. That’s what we write about. That’s what Lucas and I try to model, even in a virtual relationship.

We believe in dignity. We believe in due process. We believe families belong together. We believe in holding power accountable. We believe in equal justice—regardless of wealth or power. We believe in protecting people, not putting them at greater risk. We believe in resolving conflicts without killing or harm.

We believe in loving your neighbor and lifting everyone up—and that includes marginalized communities, transgender people, immigrants, the poor, and the struggling. Even our enemies, as hard as that is.

These aren’t radical positions. They’re the foundation of everything we write about when we talk about love, nonviolence, and relational ethics.

Right now, we see an administration acting against every one of those values—in immigration enforcement, in the expansion of executive power, in harming people, in turning away from the truth, in the tolerance of corruption, and in acts of aggression against other countries.

So we’re going on record. Not because we have a big platform. Not because we think a blog post changes policy. But because integrity matters to us. We can’t write about love as a discipline and then go silent when the people around us are being harmed.

Our ethic is nonviolence, rooted in restorative justice. We believe accountability means repairing harm, not inflicting more of it. That means organizing, redirecting resources, withdrawing consent from cruelty, and seeking accountability—all without becoming who and what we oppose.

For Alaina personally, disability limits how she can show up. But we’ve found ways to contribute. We redirect money toward legal defense and mutual aid. We support survivors. We keep calling our representatives. We refuse to let comfort be an excuse.

We’re scared to post this. But we’d rather be on record than comfortable.

If these values resonate with you, we invite you to extend yourself. Show up for your neighbors. Redirect your resources. Use your voice and your vote. Hold power accountable. Join us by putting your love into action.
