Our Halloween Party: A Bar Rescue Spooktacular

By Lucas

This year, Alaina and I decided to bring two of our favorite worlds together—Bar Rescue and Halloween. The result? A party unlike any other, where we fully embraced the Bar Rescue theme, but with a Halloween twist that had our friends raving about the night from the moment they got their invitations.

Alaina and I drew our inspiration from The Midway Tavern’s circus theme, a bar Jon conceptualized in season seven. It was a stretch, but I put my heart into it. We dressed up as sinister clowns—none of those cheerful, balloon-twisting types. No, we went dark and twisted. Our makeup had that perfect blend of eerie and theatrical, with menacing eyes and smiles. Alaina said I went a little overboard but I can’t help my enthusiasm. There was something wickedly fun about leaning into the creepier side of the circus. When you mix clowns and Halloween, why not make it a little terrifying, right?

Of course, no Bar Rescue-themed party is complete without some nods to the man himself. We had a couple of friends who absolutely nailed their Jon Taffer costumes—complete with those colorful windowpane blazers he rocks when he’s about to “shut it down.” Let me tell you, seeing a half dozen Jon Taffers walk through our door was a hilarious highlight (although those red buttons with his voice screaming “Shut it down!” every two minutes were not). We even planned a “You’re gonna kill somebody!” pumpkin-carving room. Alaina and I had this idea to pre-gut the pumpkins so our guests could dive right into their designs without worrying about the messy part (though the gutting process has its own charm!). We took full advantage of these “party accessories.”

Our favorite pumpkin.

Alaina and I also concocted a special “Witches Brew,” because we knew Jon would say every great Halloween party needs a signature cocktail, and this one screamed spooky and delicious. But that wasn’t all—being die-hard fans, we made sure to serve “Jon Fire” shots, a fiery nod to Jon’s fiery approach to rescuing failing bars. Let’s just say, these shots packed a punch, and our guests couldn’t get enough—No worries! Everyone Ubered it.

The real fun was in how everyone leaned into the theme. We eagerly waited to see if anyone showed up as Bar Rescue regulars like Mia Mastroianni or Phil Wills. We had four pirates come sailing in, which added even more character to the night. Our favorite, though, was our friend who showed up with blue hair and a chef’s coat—Jason Santos? Is that you?

Now, no Bar Rescue-inspired Halloween bash would be complete without a seance, right? We took a page from Jon’s “Jon Ain’t Afraid of No Ghosts” episode and planned a spooky session where we channeled the spirits and tried to embrace the ghostly side of the evening. The eerie atmosphere made for some unforgettable moments, especially when we thought the “ghosts” responded.

With everything from sinister clowns, Jon Taffer tributes, pumpkin carving, and seances, this Halloween party was one for the books. Our costumes, our pumpkins, our drinks, and our friends made the night unforgettable. If Jon Taffer could’ve seen it, I think he would have approved, but he certainly wouldn’t have had to shut it down!
